What is Rhinoplasty?

Who is a good candidate for a rhinoplasty?

The likelihood of you meeting someone who has already had a rhinoplasty is very high. According to American statistics, it is the third most popular cosmetic surgery, with more than 200,000 patients undergoing it per year.

The identification of the correct candidate for a rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult acts in Plastic Surgery. Not only due to the difficulty of a static and dynamic aesthetic evaluation, the construction of an appropriate therapeutic plan for each case and the expectations of each patient, but above all due to the psychological component. In our clinic, all rhinoplasty candidates are not evaluated by our plastic surgeon, Dr. Sofia Santareno, but also by our psychology team, Dr. Filipa Jardim da Silva or Dr. Débora Bento Correia. It is useless to have an aesthetic and functionally beautiful nose if the mind is not prepared to receive it. It is an irreversible and permanent change. Regarding the ideal age from which a rhinoplasty can be performed, maturity of the bone and cartilage structure of the nose and face is necessary, a situation that occurs at least at 17 years of age.

What results to expect from a Rhinoplasty?

In addition to the aesthetic component, rhinoplasty also offers an important functional component since it can improve upper respiratory difficulty, through the treatment of nasal turbines or turbinates, nasal septum deviation and improvement of chronic rhinosinusitis. As we say "a nose is only beautiful when it breathes well".

Who is a Rhinoplasty for?

Generally, those looking for a rhinoplasty want to:

  • Decrease a nasal hump

  • Narrow the nasal bridge

  • Project or sharpen the tip of the nose

  • Resolving "parrot nose" or drooping tip

  • Decrease the size of the nose wings

  • Balancing facial proportions;

  • Improve upper respiratory function with approach to the septum, turbine or turbinates and sinusitis.

How is the procedure performed at The Dr Pure Clinic?

before the procedure

An Assessment consultation is always necessary and a 3D Simulation is carried out, so that the patient has an idea of what she wants.

After the decision to have the surgery

It is forwarded to the Clinical Psychology team, so that an assessment of the receptivity to physical change can be carried out.

At the anesthesia appointment

All the patient's health conditions are evaluated for the surgery and all preoperative guidelines are given.

on the day of surgery

It is a surgery performed under general anesthesia and takes about 3 hours. Remodeling involves correct positioning on the table and infiltration of a special cold solution, preventing bleeding or bruising. During surgery, the functional component of the inferior turbinates of the nose and nasal septum is addressed, placing the nose in the best position and shape, obtaining natural results.

after surgery

The patient is discharged on the same day as the surgery, provided he has a companion at home.

At the end of two days, he returns to The Dr Pure Clinic and the reassessment is reassessed, the tampons are removed and the nose is cleaned.

"The biggest fear of patients in Rhinoplasty is the postoperative pain. The traumatic rhinoplasty technique I learned in Turkey guarantees a pain-free postoperative period. It is rare for my patients to take the prescribed analgesics."

Traumatic rhinoplasty _cc781905-5cde -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_- a closed preservation technique

rinoplastia-fechada.png
Dr. Sofia Santareno carried out her sub-specialization in Aesthetic Rhinoplasty in Istanbul, with Prof. Doctor Suleyman Tas. He only performs closed rhinoplasty with the surgical instruments he brought from Turkey (designed and patented by his Professor), thus achieving a real nose sculpture: reducing the  dorsal hump, narrowing the nose, changing the nasal tip and shorten or lengthen the nose.

In Preservation Rhinoplasty, structures of the nose are not removed: Dr. Sofia Santareno performs an atraumatic sculpture of bone and cartilaginous structures. In this way, the result is more natural, recovery is faster and painless and respiratory function is maintained - that is, you will not have difficulty breathing after surgery.

In addition, the rhinoplasty performed by Dr. Sofia Santareno is always closed, that is, all incisions are made in the mucosa of the inside of the nose, so from the outside it is not possible to notice that the nose has been operated on. In cases where it is necessary to reduce the wings of the nose, the scar is hidden in the respective groove. This is a very complex technique, as it presupposes a deep knowledge of anatomy, microsurgical manual dexterity, and a good ability to work with loupes and nasal endoscopes.
  • zero pain

  • less swelling

  • Better respiratory function
